GRiP Work Packages

In order to develop research and knowledge in Paediatric Clinical Pharmacology worldwide, the GRiP Network has adopted a comprehensive project which consists of nine Work Packages (WPs). Each work package covers different aspects of the network’s efforts to improve the way medicines for children are developed and used and to improve the way students learn Paediatric Clinical Pharmacology.

Ecah Work Package  includes several tasks and deliverables, and has 2 to 4 partners acting as leaders to oversee the achievement of the GRiP’s objectives within the Work Package:

WP1 - Joint Paediatric Clinical Pharmacology International Training Program

Work Package 1 concerns one of the core aims of GRiP, that is establishing an internationally recognized educational program in paediatric clinical pharmacology. Work Package 1 aims at building expert capacity for the development, scientific study and regulatory assessment of paediatric medicines by creating a learning environment in which paediatricians, medical sub-specialists, clinical pharmacists, health care professionals, regulatory authorities, members of the pharmaceutical industry and other relevant organisations can gain expertise in all aspects of paediatric clinical pharmacology and paediatric drug development.

Main partner - Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa

WP2 – Integrated infrastructure for paediatric epidemiological and post-marketing drug studies

Work Package 2 will build an integrated research infrastructure based on scientific collaboration, appropriate data collection and sharing methodologies, shared terminologies and common methodologies. This infrastructure will be built partly through online resources.

Main partner – EMC

WP3 – Research tools to facilitate interoperability in paediatric research

WP3 will focus on improving the quality of design, conduct, and reporting of paediatric clinical research by developing and promoting the use of modern research standards. This will include harmonisation of terminology, data standards and evaluation methods as well as standardisations of information given to patients.

Main partner – AMC

WP4 – New methods for clinical studies in paediatrics

WP4 will focus on identifying innovative approaches to clinical studies, which will also require achieving a consensus on important issues such as PK/PD modelling in paediatric drug development.

Main partner – CVBF

WP5 – Paediatric formulations

The WP focused on formulations aims to etablish and maintain an International Paediatric Formulation Knowledge Platform; providing formulation education for scientists and clinicians; facilitating global paediatric formulation research worldwide.

Main partner – UCL School of Pharmacy

WP6 – Drug developments in Neonates

WP6 will first identify neonatal networks in order to highlight key questions and problems in conducting clinical drug trials in neonates and set up a common plan of action. Then it will focus on education, standardisation of definitions, therapeutic protocols and strategies in neonatal diseases, standards for biological banking and finally it will focus on  building international consensus to validate and disseminate common agreements for high-quality clinical drug development in neonates.

Main partner – BIOEF

WP7 – Dissemination and networking

WP7 concerns the dissemination of GRiP results as well as networkin aspects. The WP7 team manages all communication products of GRiP, including the GRiP Website, Newsletter and Blog.

Main partner – AOPD

WP8 – Scientific coordination and WP9 – Project management

The last two WPs concern the leadership work required to ensure the productivity of GRiP, both from a scientific and management point of view.

Main partner – AOPD
